Location- Brisbane M1 Gateway Upgrade
Client- Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture (LAJV)
Contract Type – Contract & Hourly Hire
Referee- Grant Goodale (LAJV)

The Gateway Motorway is a vital part of southeast Queensland’s regional and inter-regional road network and is essential to the operations of the Port of Brisbane and some 7500 surrounding industries and businesses involved in servicing the State's growing economy.

Currently, around 120,000 motorists use the motorway daily with traffic volumes on the motorway likely to double over the next 20 years due to the large growth that the region is experiencing.

The Gateway Upgrade Project involves the duplication of the Gateway Bridge and the upgrade of 20km of the Gateway Motorway between Nudgee Road and Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road.

Queensland Motorway Limited (QML) is delivering the $1.88 billion project on behalf of the State government, with Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture responsible for design and construction.

The principal contractor, Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture, has brought together a team of nationally and internationally acclaimed designers, construction specialists and related project support expertise of which Bluestar is proud to be a part of.

Gateway Upgrade Remediation Project

Location- Brisbane Airport / M1 Gateway Upgrade Intersection
Client- Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture
Contract Type – Cost Plus
Referee- Rob Joy – Queensland Motorway
Consultant - Coffees

The Gateway Upgrade Remediation Project is part Queensland Motorways Limited (QML) $1.88 billion Gateway Motorway Upgrade Project. The site was situated on both QML and Brisbane Airport Co-operation (BAC) property and involved close cooperation with Principal Contractor Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture (LAJV) in order to achieve successful project outcomes.

Contaminates include both tannery and coal tar waste from previous land filling operations which required removal to landfill in order for the site to be validated, thus allowing critical road construction activities to follow. Bluestar were able to achieve this by working closely with LAJV and its environmental consultant Coffees. By getting on with the job Bluestar contributed to achieving an optimal project outcome in the minimum of time.

Bluestar provides ongoing environmental support for the project through its asbestos removal service which provides cost effective and immediate response in conjunction with plant hire.
